With Covid pandemic hitting the cinema industry in Pakistan badly and keeping it closed for almost 2 years, revival of cinema has begun again with a lot of movie releases on and after Eid-ul-fitar. Here we discuss the box office number of recent releases in Pakistan and if there is still any hope for the industry.
KAMLI
Sarmad Khoosat's directional Kamli, starring big names like Saba Qamar and Sania Saeed, has finally released in Pakistan and since then has been gathering great reviews from both critics as well as audiences. The film on its first weekend has done business of 1.18 Crore approximately which is not bad considering the niche genre of the film. Moreover, even though the film got many screens to its name but didn't have much pull because of no massive marketing of the movie. The box office numbers over each weekend are;
- Friday - 32 lakhs
- Saturday - 44 lakhs
- Sunday - 42 lakhs
TOP GUN: MAVERICK
Tom Cruise's Top Gun: Maverick has been a major hit in Pakistan which has surpassed its second weekend with great numbers. Proving to be the best movie release for Tom Cruise according to box office with great reviews pouring in worldwide, it did good business in Pakistan as well by earning 3.47 Crore on the 1st weekend and 2.68 Crore on the 2nd weekend. The box office numbers over the weekend are;
- Friday - 64 lakhs
- Saturday - 1.8 Crore
- Sunday - 98 lakhs
GHABRANA NAHI HAI
The action comedy romantic film, Ghabrana Nahi Hai starring Saba Qamar and Zahid Ahmed has proved to be the best eid release in Pakistan and has shown that quality content from lollywood will always pull viewers to it. The budget and the business of the film are as follows;
- Budget - 6 Crore
- Total Box Office - 9.75 Crore
DUM MASTAM
Thus love failed to conquer all as we see the box office numbers of Dum Mastam starring Imran Ashraf and Amar Khan, produced under the banner of Momina Duraid productions. The numbers of the movie are as follows;
- Budget - 7 Crores
- Total Box Office - 8 Crores
PARDE MEIN REHNE DO
Hania Aamir and Ali Rehman Khan starrer, Parde Mein Rehne Do has failed to outstand among the 5 eid releases in Pakistan and despite crossing its budget still can not be considered a hit. The numbers of the film are;
- Budget - 3 crores
- Total Box Office - 4.5 Crores
CHAKKAR
Starring Neelam Muneer and Ahsan Khan, Chakkar has been the 2nd lowest grossing movie after Tere Bajre Di Rakhi. The murder mystery had great potential to earn but got very few shows because of the release of 5 local films on Eid and the massive business that Dr. Strange did in Pakistan. The numbers of the film are;
- Budget - 3 Crores
- Total Box Office - 3.10 Crores
ALL IN ALL
Considering the post-pandemic situation, the movies did quite well but the producers have to play smartly and look after each other for the revival of Lollywood. Had the 5 local films released separately, they could have done great business. With the coming releases of Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad and prequel to Jurassic Park, quite good hopes can be seen for the industry. Let us know in the comment section about your thoughts on the industry.
