Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Is Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Best Marvel Movie?

Dr. Strange, a relatively new character in the MCU, made his first on-screen appearance in the 2016 movie, Dr. Strange. Since then, wizard has been one of the most loved MCU heroes worldwide. Benedict Cumberbatch played the character brilliantly in all of his films, especially the latest 2022 release; Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness. Alongside Dr. Strange, the second biggest role in the film went to Wanda Maximoff (Scarlett Witch), played by Elizabeth Olsen, who also gave an excellent performance.

<SPOILER ALERT>

The plot of this movie revolves around Dr. Strange and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) travelling across the Multiverse in order to prevent Wanda from taking America’s powers. This was America Chavez’s first on-screen appearance in the MCU, she is a teenager that has the power to open inter-dimensional portals. Wanda feels the need to steal her powers so that she can be with her two sons that exist in another dimension where another version of Wanda is their mother (previously shown in a Marvel series, WandaVision). If Wanda would take America’s powers, the young hero would die. This is why, throughout the movie, Strange protects America from the Scarlett Witch, and end up travelling across different dimensions, trying to find the enchanted book that contains the spell that can stop Wanda.

CAMEOS

This movie didn’t contain as many cameos as Marvel’s previous masterpiece, Spider Man: No Way Home, but it didn’t include some nostalgic characters in its plot. Firstly, Reed Richards (John Krasinski), the leader of the Fantastic Four, made an appearance as one of the five members of the Illuminati, a group of heroes that protect a different dimension’s Earth. Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), the founder and leader of the X-Men, also rolled in on his renowned wheelchair and brought the nostalgic factor to this movie. These were the only two exciting cameos presented in this movie.

Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Arguably the two finest qualities of this movie were the portrayals of Dr. Strange and Scarlett Witch, by Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen respectively. These two brilliant actors played their roles to absolute perfection, from facial expression to action sequences. The other thing that really made the film a blockbuster was its CGI (Computer Generated Imagery). There were quite a few scenes in which CGI was used, and it was used impeccably. Whether it was Scarlett Witch coming out of a mirror or America and Strange transforming into unusual bodily figures while travelling through dimensions, the special effects were a work of art.

Granted this film generated a lot of buzz and excitement in the entertainment industry, being Marvel’s first Horror categorized film, it did not live up to its expectation. Maybe because Marvel raised its standard quite significantly when they released Spider Man; No Way Home, people might react negatively when the movie doesn’t live up to that kind of hype. Having said that, Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness contained that wow factor that keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats, excited for what might happen next. It also managed to snatch an IMDB rating of 7.4/10 and a BookMyShow rating of 78%. Since the MCU operates looking at the bigger picture, we are certain that this movie has set the stage for another Marvel blockbuster in the near future.
