BHOOL BHULAIYAA 2: DOES IT LIVE UP TO IT'S PREDECESSOR?
After the huge success of its predecessor, Bhool Bhulaiya 2 was panned out to be a comedic blockbuster with a horror element integrated within. The great Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar, gave the performace of a lifetime in the first Bhool Bhulaiya movie, giving Karthik Aryan some pretty big shoes to fill, with receiving the lead male role in this sequel; Dr. Neil Bhosale. Alongside him, Kiara Advani plays the lead female role, and Neil’s love interest, Reet Thakur.
Movie Overview
The story of this movie is completely unrelated to the first film, but it does contain some similarities to its prequel. The plot of this film revolves around a spirit of Manjulika, who was once a member of the Thakur family. An incident took place and Manjulika died, and her spirit locked in a room inside the Thakur’s mansion (Haveli). In the beginning of the movie, Reet’s family found out that Reet died in an accident, but Reet was still alive. Due to some complications, Reet couldn’t tell her family that she hadn’t died, so she took Dr. Neil to her mansion, which was abandoned, to hide, but her family came there and saw Neil. So Neil had to pretend that he could see and communicate with spirits and that the spirit of Reet brought him here. During this game of hide-n-seek, some family secrets began to unfold, things took a mysterious and scary turn and Dr. Neil was left to protect this family from an unearthly being.
Movie Review
Before its release, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 created a lot of hype and excitement mainly because of its prequel and the start studded cast. However, upon watching the movie, it was certain that it did not live up to its hype. The plot was too messy, there was no clear sense of direction to where the story was headed and some elements of the film made the storyline seem distorted. The most crucial aspect to this movie was getting the comedy right, and they failed to do that. Except a few scenes, the comedy was bland and there wasn’t a single scenario in which they gave the audience something to laugh out loud about.
The silver lining in this movie was the acting by lead actor, Karthik Aryan, and the lead actress, Kiara Advani. Both these talented Bollywood stars gave brilliant performances, fitting into their respective roles effortlessly. However, the standard set by Akshay Kumar for the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise was so remarkably high that Karthik couldn’t replicate how Akshay played his role.
Popular Opinions
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has received lots of mixed opinion from
viewers across the world, but most of them lean more toward negativity and
criticism. People believe that Rajpal Yadhav, a legend of Bollywood and one of
the actors who gave another brilliant performance in the previous Bhool
Bhulaiyaa movie, has been wasted in this movie and that his role was
“pointless”. There are a few who didn’t completely disapprove of the film and
feel that it’s one of those movies that help pass the time. If we consider how
big a hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa’s first part was, “helping to pass the time” is not a
positive natured opinion about the movie.
